Personalized Counseling with Flexible Payment Options

Private Pay Therapy in McDonough, GA

At Live Oak Counseling Services, we are a private pay counseling practice, which means we do not bill insurance directly or participate in any insurance networks. However, if you have Out-of-Network benefits, your insurance plan may reimburse you for a portion of your counseling fees.

This page will guide you through how Out-of-Network reimbursement works, and how to get the most out of your benefits if you choose to pursue this option.

What is Private Pay Counseling?

Private pay (also called self-pay counseling) means you pay for your sessions directly, rather than having us bill your insurance. Many clients prefer this option because:

✅ Your privacy is fully protected — no diagnosis is required to share with insurance.
✅ You and your therapist have complete control over your care — no restrictions on how many sessions you can have, how often you meet, or what techniques are used.
✅ Your treatment is custom-tailored to you, not to what an insurance company will allow.

Can I Use Insurance to Get Reimbursed?

Yes! If your plan includes Out-of-Network (OON) mental health benefits, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement after paying for sessions upfront. This is most common with PPO and POS plans.

How Much Will I Get Reimbursed?

Reimbursement rates vary by plan, but many of our clients receive 50% to 70% of their session fees back after submitting a claim. We recommend calling your insurance provider to ask:

  • Do I have Out-of-Network benefits for outpatient mental health with a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)?

  • What is my Out-of-Network deductible, and how much of it have I already met?

  • What percentage of my counseling fee will be reimbursed?

  • Is reimbursement based on my therapist’s actual rate, or a lower Reasonable & Customary (R&C) rate for McDonough, GA (Zip Code: 30253)?

What Codes Should I Ask About?

When speaking with your insurance company, you can mention these service codes (CPT codes) used for counseling:

  • 90791 – Initial Intake Assessment

  • 90834 – Individual Therapy (45 minutes)

  • 90837 – Individual Therapy (53 minutes)

  • 90847 – Family/Couples Therapy

What is a Superbill?

A Superbill is a special receipt that includes everything your insurance company needs to process an Out-of-Network claim. Upon request, we will provide you with a monthly Superbill, which you can submit directly to your insurance company.

Your Superbill will include:
✔️ Your name and therapist’s information
✔️ Session dates and service codes
✔️ Amount paid for each session
✔️ Diagnosis code (if applicable)

How to Use a Superbill - Step-by-Step

1️⃣ Call Your Insurance – Ask about your Out-of-Network benefits for mental health counseling.
2️⃣ Attend Sessions & Pay Out of Pocket – Payment is due at the time of service.
3️⃣ Request Your Superbill – We can send this monthly upon request.
4️⃣ Submit to Insurance – Upload, email, or mail the Superbill to your insurance provider (they’ll tell you how).
5️⃣ Receive Reimbursement – If eligible, your insurance will reimburse you directly.

Can I Use My HSA or FSA to Pay for Counseling?

Absolutely! We accept Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for counseling. Many clients find this to be a tax-smart way to invest in their mental health.

Payment Policy

Payment for your session is required before your appointment begins. We ask that all payments be made on the same day as your scheduled session and completed prior to the start of your session.

We accept: ✔️ All major credit and debit cards ✔️ Health Savings Account (HSA) cards ✔️ Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards ✔️ Exact cash payments (please bring the exact amount, as we do not keep cash on site and cannot make change)

Cancellation Policy

We understand that unexpected things come up, and sometimes you may need to reschedule. If that happens, we ask that you notify us at least 48 hours in advance to avoid any cancellation fees.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice, as well as no-shows, will be charged the full session fee. This allows us to honor our therapists’ time and ensure availability for other clients who may need that appointment slot.

Why Choose Private Pay Counseling at Live Oak Counseling Services?

  • Customized Care – We focus on your needs, not insurance guidelines.
